Taking you behind-the-scenes of the Moulin Rouge movie for a second to share a tidbit and a cocktail. When the actors of Moulin Rouge (Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor) had Saturday night parties after filming, there was dancing on tables and absinthe involved.Even if your weekend doesn’t usually involve the former, the latter with blood orange juice, elderflower liqueur, and lavender bitters will make for a memorable (but not crazy wild) evening. The absinthe - which tastes like anise, licorice, and fennel - leaves a lingering taste on your buds for just long enough until you crave another sip.

The Show Must Go On

Serves: 1 | Mixing time: 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • ½ ounces absinthe

  • ½ ounce Fernet-Branca

  • 2 ounces elderflower liqueur

  • ½ ounce lemon

  • ½ ounce blood orange juice

  • 2 dashes lavender bitters

  • Ice

Method

  1. Add all ingredients into a cocktail shaker over ice.

  2. Shake.

  3. Pour into a glass. Enjoy!
