That’s a Wrap!

It is going to be a big movie weekend, and I am appreciative for the time off to visit the theater. I finally saw a movie last week and it really made me realize how much I miss the theater-going experience. In addition to movies, I intend to re-watch the entire 3 seasons of Arrested Development, probably with dim sum leftovers within reach. Have a wonderful weekend!

* This really is how I get sucked into an SVU marathon.

* I am officially obsessed with Arrested Development, and May 26 (the start of Season 4) cannot get here soon enough.

* Lavender lemonade: a perfect summer drink.

* Met Gala 2013 - I wasn’t very impressed with the theme and most of the dresses. My favorites: Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Alba, and Anne Hathaway.

* Indulged in one of the best chocolate lava cakes [photo above].

* Stoked to see The Great Gatsby and Iron Man 3 this weekend!

* A great place for Mother’s Day brunch. Here are some other ideas!

* Saw Mud last weekend, and it was visually stunning and a great slice-of-life film.

That’s a Wrap!

grumpy cat

This week went by so slowly. Every morning I woke up confused about which day it was, but recently that’s become normal. I am looking forward to the next few days when things start slowing down. I plan on catching up on Smash (I am really enjoying this show…please don’t cancel it, NBC), testing out a new (to me) Japanese restaurant, and starting a new novel. When the days start to blur together, it’s nice to have quiet moments to simply reflect and refresh. Now, let’s wrap up the week with a recap…

* Adorable watermelon pool float - perfect for lazy summer days.

* Matthew McConaughey on Letterman.

* Grumpy Cat unimpressed at TIME.

* Mud comes out today! I can’t wait to see it, along with these other movies.

* A Dark Knight bookshelf.

* A fantastic article on Baz Luhrmann and The Great Gatsby.

* Finished reading Z: A Novel About Zelda Fitzgerald yesterday. It was moving, eye-opening, and beautifully written. Zelda is one strong gal.

* Checking out some interesting art exhibits this weekend and hoping to be inspired.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Wonder Wheel - contrasted

Santa Monica

I hope you all had a lovely Easter weekend. I was having an Asian food kick for some reason, and I enjoyed every minute of it. We are in the final home stretch until summer, and the sunny days make even the most mundane tasks worthwhile. I have finally adjusted to Daylight Savings, and it is so much easier to wake up earlier. I’m looking forward to a weekend filled with even more food, getting out in nature for a couple of hours, and catching up on more recent releases. For now, wrapping up the week with a recap…

* Lucille Ball roasting her close friends – gotta love her!

* When two artistic geniuses meet.

* Happy Endings returned to television last week and it did not disappoint.

* If you enjoy Blue Bottle Coffee, you’ll enjoy this article.

* Dreaming of hot summer days on Coney Island [1st photo].

* Enjoyed a little too much Din Tai Fung this week, with desserts from an Asian bakery to really top things off.

* Breakfast with a view [2nd photo].

* Watched This is 40 and there were moments of pure hilarity. An entertaining weekend watch.

Have a great weekend!

Movie Bites: Banana Blueberry Pops

I had a couple of ripe bananas laying on the counter, and instead of letting them go to waste I made blueberry banana pops! This recipe is incredibly easy and healthy for a hot day when your taste buds are getting tired of ice cream and lemonade. If you’re watching an afternoon movie, this snack is a great go-to!

Banana Blueberry Pops
• 3 bananas
• 1/2 cup of yogurt (I used Fage Greek Yogurt)
• 2 tablespoons of honey
• Handful of blueberries/sugar

1. Mix the bananas, yogurt, honey/sugar, and blueberries together in a bowl. You could blend them together for a smooth popsicle, but I wanted there to be fruit chunks, so I mixed with a spoon.
2. Pour mix into popsicle molds, let freeze for 2-3 hours.
3. When you are ready to eat, run warm water on the outside of the mold for 30-50 seconds until popsicle easily comes out.

Flavor of the Month: Peach

1. Homemade Peach Ice Cream / 2. Rosewater Yogurt with White Peaches and Blueberries / 3. BBQ Pizza with Peaches and Ham / 4. Vanilla and Peach Mojitos /
5. Spicy Peach and Cucumber Salsa

Peaches are a great summer fruit that can be used for meals, desserts, and drinks. Peaches add sweetness to a cocktail, a unique twist to average pizza, and a fruity kick to salsa. I always consider peaches to be a real treat because it can be tricky to find them when they are ripe. I usually end up waiting a couple of days before using my peaches since I prefer them really soft and juicy. Now that peaches are finally ready for eating, buy a couple and start enjoying! What are your favorite peach recipes?

Around Town: Coolhaus Ice Cream Truck

New York City in the summer means inescapable heat and a never-ending desire for ice cream. When I passed a bright pink ice cream truck, I had to stop. Turns out, the truck was Coolhaus Ice Cream, where you construct your own cookie ice cream sandwich.  I chose chocolate chip cookies with the Dirty Mint ice cream (which tastes like a fresh peppermint garden). The ice cream and cookies are delicious individually, and together they are an unbeatable combination. Also, the wrapper that the ice cream sandwich comes in is edible. Coolhaus isn’t just in NYC – they have trucks in Los Angeles, Dallas, and Austin! With flavors like Fried Chicken and Waffles, Lychee Martini Sorbet, and Chocolate Molten Cake, I clearly need to hunt down this truck again for another summer treat.

If you are in NYC and want a different kind of summer treat, try the frrrozen hot chocolates at Serendipity 3!

Gifts for Any Occasion

 1. World’s Largest Gummy Worm / 2. Kissing Beagle Salt and Pepper Shakers
3. Donut Pool Float  / 4. Custom Jones Soda Label / 5. Customized M&M’s

 Sometimes when I am looking for gifts for friends, family, or for a host/hostess, I cannot for the life of me figure out what to get them. Unless I find a gift far in advance that is perfect for someone, it takes me a lot of brainstorming to come up with something special. Though there aren’t as many gift-giving holidays in the summer as there are during the winter, there are always birthdays, graduations, BBQs, just because, and thank you gifts that are waiting to be given. I laughed out loud when I saw the 3 pound gummy worm…I am a major fan of all things gummy (and sour), but this is just too much! The pool float is also hilarious. I saw it in person at a random store last weekend and it is even better in person – it’s also perfect for these hot summer days. Customized gifts can be pricey, but if the situation calls for it, I think it can be really meaningful with limitless opportunities to include inside jokes.

Wrapping up the week with a recap…

· It is officially summer. Let the fun (and hard work) begin!

Candy + Ice Cream

Mulberry’s Spring/Summer 2012 campaign is colorful, whimsical, and all around a fantastic concept! Anything with oversized candies and desserts are an A+ in my book.
