One of my all-time favorite romantic comedies is Sleepless in Seattle. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan are a perfect movie couple, and this beautiful story transcends the notion that geography determines who you’ll find and fall in love with. The movie also includes my two favorite cities, Seattle and New York City.
During one scene in the movie, Tom Hanks and Rob Reiner have lunch. This restaurant is located in Pike Place Market, at the Athenian Seafood Restaurant and Bar. There are even placards that show where the two actors sat during filming. I decided to figure out where this restaurant was, and went downtown for a relaxing Sunday brunch.
The food was decent, but I think most people go to the restaurant because of the movie. The portions are bigger than they need to be - I had the Breakfast Sandwich (came with 2 sandwiches) with hot chocolate. The view from the downstairs and upstairs tables is stunning, especially on a clear, sunny day. The Athenian Restaurant has a classic Seattle feel to it, which makes it worth visiting, but I probably won’t be going back for the food.
