There’s an App for That

There are so many apps these days that there is always the pending question of whether certain apps really work or not. Which app is the best? Which one won’t freeze my phone? I don’t download a lot of apps because it sucks away my phone’s energy that is already too quickly used up. Along with my app staples such as Instagram, Twitter, and Starbucks, these are some of my other favorite apps that I use pretty much on a daily basis. Which apps are you using?

Open Table - As soon as I downloaded this app on my phone, I felt the need to plan out the next two months and make reservations just because I could. Open Table makes it seriously easy to RSVP to your favorite eatery, and they send you confirmations and reminders when your reservation is coming up.

LocalEats - A guide to the best local restaurants in any city. Forget about chain restaurants and mediocre burgers, LocalEats will give lead you to the best that a city has to offer locally. I love these kinds of apps because I am constantly on the hunt for local, non-commercial restaurants.

Urbanspoon - This was the first app I ever downloaded because I was lost with my friend in Santa Monica desperately trying to figure out where to eat and how to get to that restaurant. We didn’t know where anything was, and since I was the passenger (aka the GPS), I had to figure something out quickly. The app downloaded within a minute, and after two minutes we were on our way to eat great Japanese food. Urbanspoon provides the address and phone number of the restaurant, so you can use your Map to locate the restaurant while calling to make sure there will be a table reserved for you.

AroundMe - I have been using this app for a while because it always takes me some time to gain my bearings and learn the area around me. If I am in a city and want to know what Italian restaurants are closest to me, I can do a quick search and find one. The best part about this app is that it will locate basically anything around you, such as movie theaters, bookstores, and parking lots.

Moviefone - On your way to work but want to figure out movie plans with your best friend for tonight? Moviefone has saved me so much time in trying to figure out which theater to go to and which movie to see. Just type in your zip code and a list of theaters, movies, and times will pop up within seconds. If you don’t know which movie to see, you can read the descriptions and find reviews. You can also see which movies are coming out soon and which ones just went on DVD.

That’s a Wrap!

Wrapping up the week with a recap…

· Mid-week brunch that included Belgian waffles, homemade whipped cream, bacon, ham and goat cheese scrambled eggs, and fresh orange juice [1st photo].

· Absolutely loved The Avengers…after 2+ hours I still didn’t want it to end.

· One of my leopard cupcakes pictures was accepted to FoodGawker! After lots of picture rejections, it is always (and will always be) exciting when one makes it through.

· Beyond grateful and excited that my Summer Reading List 2012 was Freshly Pressed on Thursday! Ahh!

· Made my weekly visit to Din Tai Fung. I will never get tired of that restaurant [2nd photo].

· App of the Week: Food Truth - for when I’m feeling healthy and want recipes on-the-go.
