Delicious Pantone Pairings

pantone1

These Pantone Pairings by David Schwen are so clever. I can’t decide which one is my favorite – it’s a tie between the milk and cookie pairing and the bacon and eggs pairing. The idea is simple yet leaves room for the imagination to run wild with food pairing ideas.

The texture of the ingredients really elevate the visuals. I get hungry just looking at them.pantone4pantone5pantone7pantone8

A Dash of March

ice cream disco

In lieu of the typical Friday That’s a Wrap! post, I thought it would be the perfect time to launch my A Dash of March Food and Film Campaign given that it is the 1st day of March! Every morning I will tweet a plan of action to help get us through the last leg of winter and into spring. I’ll be using the hashtag #ADashofMarch, so follow me on Twitter for your daily dose of all things food and film. Along the way I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Of course, I’ll still be blogging three days a week – this is just a fun way to engage and bring delicious food and entertaining films back into our lives. Check my Twitter later today to find out the first daily dose of inspiration!

Currently Craving: Lightsaber Chopsticks

I use chopsticks regularly, so you can imagine my delight when I saw these. These chopsticks actually light up, which will add an extra layer of fun to family meals. Pretty sure there will be more Star Wars role-playing than actual eating.  There is still time to savor wooden chopsticks, though, since pre-orders don’t ship until November. Would you use these lightsaber chopsticks?

That’s a Wrap!

Happy Friday! Wrapping up the week with a recap…

· Nothing beats dinner and jazz on a Monday night [1st photo].

· Spotted: a beautiful butterfly on a dirty NYC sidewalk [2nd photo].

· I have finally started watching Breaking Bad. After hearing so many good things, I had to see for myself what it’s all about!

· More reasons to love Jon Hamm, Christina Hendricks, and Vincent Kartheiser.

· Still need to see Spiderman…and as of this weekend, The Dark Knight Rises.

· I could have really used this umbrella during the intense thunderstorm on Wednesday!

· Didn’t really take advantage of Restaurant Week. Instead I did a lot of cooking at home.

Did you try any new restaurants this week? Have you seen any good movies?

Around Town: Tipsy Parson, New York City

There are so many places to eat in NYC it is kind of ridiculous! The options are endless, which makes going out to eat a process involving research and making reservations. I have a list of restaurants I would love to try (it grows daily) and I depend on OpenTable to confirm a table. It helps if you can narrow down which area you want to be in (Upper East Side, Upper West Side, Meatpacking, West Village, etc). Because my list is too long and I don’t want to be going out to eat all the time, I sometimes depend on Yelp, friend recommendations, or find restaurants from books or websites to read reviews and learn a bit more before spending money.

My friend recommended Tipsy Parson to me, and everything about it sounded great. I checked out the menu online beforehand, and almost immediately knew what I wanted to order. Tipsy Parson is small and charming, with a comfortable exterior and interior. We opted for an early lunch so there were only a couple of other people eating, but the restaurant is small enough for the service and space to feel personal. I will definitely be going back for breakfast or brunch!

Setting: Charming and soulful, cute neighborhood restaurant

Good for: Lunch with friends, business meetings

What to order: BLT (with an incredible side of crunchy potato chips), Mushroom Toast – next time I want to try the sticky bun.

Downsides: I found the portions to be a bit big

Recommend: Grab the seat next to the window – you can people watch!

Around Town: Bocca Di Bacco, New York City

I can never get enough Italian food. Whether it is just pasta with parmesan or a more complex dish with shrimp and herbs, I simply love every bite. Bocca di Bacco is a delicious Italian restaurant with a comfortable atmosphere, making it a great place to catch up with family and friends. The service is quick and the food is so filling that we couldn’t possibly stay for dessert. I am not as picky with Italian food than I am with other cuisines, but until I find a restaurant to top Bocca di Bacco, I will be going here for my Italian fix.

· · ·

Setting: Comfortable atmosphere with wooden tables and chairs

Good for: Family dinner, lunch with friends, date night

What to order: Classic Onion Soup, Taste of Four Cheeses, any of the pasta dishes (I ordered the pasta special)

Downsides: The music is a bit loud

Recommend: Sharing dishes since the portions are large

Artist to Know: PES

Everyday we are exposed to multimedia in the forms of T.V. shows, movies, YouTube, pictures, and music, just to name a few. While there are many talented creators, it takes a special something for someone to stand out. I recently found out about the artist PES, but have been obsessed with his work ever since. PES is the name the artist, born Adam Pesapane, goes by. PES is a director and animator of short films and commercials, using stop-motion to create compelling stories that make you think about things in a different way. For example, in the top video, Western Spaghetti, PES uses everyday objects to make a spaghetti dish. The concept is unique and his short films are fun to watch because it is clear how much time and effort went into making them, and they are extremely well done.

Indian Food

{Chicken Curry}

When I went to India, I tried so many different kinds of foods that I had never tasted before. I was happy to finally get a taste of true Indian food – only to quickly realize that I prefer my foods with very little spice. Though I have always loved chicken curry and naan, I discovered a couple of other Indian foods that are quite tasty.

{Potato and Cauliflower}

{Naan}

{Basmati Rice}

Bagels

Every now and then, I love indulging in a bagel. Bagels are extremely filling, yet they can serve as a great breakfast with the proper toppings. My favorite toppings are whipped cream cheese with smoked salmon, or a Cheese Bagel with whipped cream cheese. Peanut butter is another great topping that will keep you full until lunch.

Also, traveler’s tip: if you are traveling to a place where you may need to be more cautious of the food, bagels and to-go peanut butter cups are a convenient back-up snack that you can easily pack in your luggage.

I am also a fan of the Everything Bagel, especially when toasted, but then again, I prefer all my bagels to be toasted. I am always on the hunt for  a great bagel place…do you know of any (preferably in New York or Los Angeles)? Let me know! I’ll be on the lookout for more, as well, and will be sure to update you on my findings.

These are some of the places I have found along the way:

1. 42nd St. Bagel in Claremont, CA

2. Absolute Bagels in New York, NY

3. Brooklyn Bagel Bakery in Los Angeles, CA

4. Bagel Hole in Brooklyn, NY
