Around Town: Molten Chocolate Cakery, Seattle

a

Seattle is filled with unique little shops tucked behind tree-lined streets, so when I found Molten Chocolate Cakery, I could not have been more pleased. The cakery is decorated with charming trinkets and cozy wooden tables and chairs, and the chocolate aroma greets you at the door. I was tempted to order everything on the menu because they had one of the best selections of desserts I have seen in a long time: milkshakes, cake, cookies, pudding, ice cream…tell me when to stop. Order one of their thick milkshakes, rich chocolate molten lava cakes, or gooey cookies and you’ll have yourself a decadent afternoon treat. I am such a fan of this place, and the next time I am in Seattle craving molten chocolate cake (which is almost always), you’ll find me here.

P.S. Since this week seems to be chocolate-themed, check out Chocolate Croissants for more sweetness.

Seasonal Transitions

For some people, the day after Thanksgiving is the green light to start playing Christmas music, put up the family tree, and decorate the house with jingle bells and wreaths. The entire week after Thanksgiving is the time when we start to transition from autumn to winter. It’s not only the time for trading in our rain boots for snow shoes and pea coats for parkas, but it is also a time to change things up in the kitchen.

A new season means new ingredients and flavors. With winter comes seasonal delights such as gingerbread cookies, eggnog, and peppermint. So enjoy the last of those cinnamon sticks and pumpkin pies for one more week because in just a couple of days, it’ll be time to celebrate the winter season!

Fall Kitchen Delights

Monogrammed Mug | Mermaid Bottle Opener | Whimsical Acorn Button Box | Spilt Milk Bowl | Ninjabread Men

Whenever I come across fun kitchen gadgets or tools, I have to hold myself back from buying them all. These kitchen accessories are cute and simple additions to brighten your day. I am obsessed with the spilt milk bowl and ninjabread men cookie cutters – they’re so clever and would make great gifts. If you could just pick 1, which would it be?

Around Town: Coolhaus Ice Cream Truck

New York City in the summer means inescapable heat and a never-ending desire for ice cream. When I passed a bright pink ice cream truck, I had to stop. Turns out, the truck was Coolhaus Ice Cream, where you construct your own cookie ice cream sandwich.  I chose chocolate chip cookies with the Dirty Mint ice cream (which tastes like a fresh peppermint garden). The ice cream and cookies are delicious individually, and together they are an unbeatable combination. Also, the wrapper that the ice cream sandwich comes in is edible. Coolhaus isn’t just in NYC – they have trucks in Los Angeles, Dallas, and Austin! With flavors like Fried Chicken and Waffles, Lychee Martini Sorbet, and Chocolate Molten Cake, I clearly need to hunt down this truck again for another summer treat.

If you are in NYC and want a different kind of summer treat, try the frrrozen hot chocolates at Serendipity 3!

And the Oscar Goes To…

The Academy Awards are this Sunday, and I wish I had a television in my room so that I could stock up on snacks and enjoy the show. However, since that isn’t the case I will have to hunt down a nearby TV. I always enjoy Oscar season and the days leading up to the big night. The competition is fierce, and it couldn’t be more thrilling! To make the awards show more enjoyable, an Oscars party would be a fun event to throw for your friends, family, or yourself. Because the awards show can last for several hours, make enough snacks to last through the night. Who will you be rooting for this Sunday?

◊ Cookies in the shape of Oscars

◊ Popcorn cones with the Best Picture nominees

◊ Keep gold champagne glasses nearby to celebrate when your favorite movie wins!

◊ Have gold and sparkly table settings so your guests feel like stars

◊ Fill your champagne glasses with an orange and gold drink – this recipe looks like a winner

Party of Love

Whether you are hosting or attending a Valentine’s Day party this February, make a statement with the food that you serve/bring. Valentine’s Day parties can be fun because there is pink all over and the edible goodies tend to be very sweet! Desserts are a must at a Valentine’s Day party, and I would argue may be even more important than the actual food you serve. If you are thinking of having an Anti-Valentine’s Day Party or going all Jessica Biel in Valentine’s Day and throwing an I Hate Valentine’s Day Party, check out this site.

Homemade Gift Ideas: Food Edition

{Homemade cocktail mixers in tall glass bottles (The Container Store has these bottles)}

If you are on a tight budget, handmade gifts might be a great way to go about your holiday “shopping.” I often find that handmade gifts are extremely meaningful and have the potential to be super creative. These gift ideas are so fun and fairly simple. When hand making a gift for your friend or family member, think about an inside joke you share or a memory. This will help you narrow down what to make for each person and it’ll be extra special because it relates to something you both experienced.

{Make cookie dough, freeze it, and gift it in a cute container}

{Snowman Soup: In a clear bag, include a packet of powder hot chocolate, chocolate bars, marshmallows, and candy canes. Add hot water and voila!}

{Sugar scrub cube - a great way to use sugar! Click on picture to find out how to make!}

{Decorate a sugar cookie with a Christmas design and cut into puzzle pieces}

{Put a picture in a jar and fill with olive oil}
