That’s a Wrap!

Wrapping up the week with a recap…

· Visited Carrie Bradshaw’s old stomping grounds on Sex and the City [1st photo].

· Enjoyed champagne on ice with fresh strawberries at NYC’s Fig and Olive [2nd photo].

· Saw Death of a Salesman on Broadway starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, Linda Emond, and Andrew Garfield – it was so intense, moving, and emotional! [3rd photo].

· Finally caught up with Revenge. I can’t believe the season finale! The show needs to hurry up with season 2, I won’t be able to wait for too long.

· Saw The Five Year Engagement starring Jason Segal and Emily Blunt – I’ve heard mixed reviews of the movie, but I actually enjoyed it.

What are you up to this weekend? Have a happy Friday!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Bridget Jones' Diary

Happy Valentine’s Day! I know this holiday may seem way too Hallmark-y and overblown, but just think of it as the perfect time to indulge on chocolate chip cookies and brownies, watch romance movies, and dream of love. These are only some of the romantic comedies on the long list of movies that I adore, and today I am going to take the time to enjoy one. Why not? Living vicariously through movie characters is just what I do. It is what it is. Today, you should too. Cheers to a day full of self-bought roses and chocolate truffles!

Around Town: Buddakan NYC

In the Sex and the City movie, Carrie and Big celebrate their wedding reception at New York’s Buddakan, located at 75 9th Avenue. Having seen the movie, I walked into Buddakan and was surprised that it looked exactly as it did on the big screen. The movie really captured the hip vibe of this modern Asian cuisine restaurant. I tried several of the appetizers, including the Cantonese Spring Rolls and Pork Potstickers, and enjoyed the whole Peking duck as a main course. I really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere at Buddakan, and it felt like a scene straight out of a movie…literally. If you’re in NYC and want to try another SATC location, try this.

Setting: Large space with low lighting

Good for: Date night, girls night out, wedding reception, night on the town

What to order: Cantonese Spring Rolls, Lobster Egg Rolls, and Whole Peking Duck

Downsides: The lighting is a little too dark – I like to be able to see what I’m eating

Recommend: Getting dressed up and having a fun night out with friends! Buddakan is a trendy and swanky place to eat

Around Town: Magnolia Bakery

It is so fun seeing something you saw in a movie in real life. When I see restaurants or stores in movies, I wonder if it is a real place or if it was built on a set (such as Central Perk in Friends). If you watch Sex and the City, you might notice Carrie Bradshaw sitting on a bench enjoying a sweet cupcake. It is the scene where she tells Miranda about her crush on Aiden and that she “believes him to be very cute.” The bakery that these close friends sit outside of is Magnolia Bakery in New York City. There are 4 Magnolia Bakery locations in NYC, including Bleecker Street, Columbus Avenue, Rockefeller Center, and Grand Central Terminal. If you aren’t in Big Apple, they also have locations in Los Angeles and Dubai.

The cupcakes (and other variety of goods they have) are seriously sweet, and are definitely a mouthful. I quite enjoy the vanilla cupcake with chocolate icing, though, to be honest, I prefer Crumbs, Sprinkles, and Frosted Cupcakery over Magnolia Cupcakes. Regardless, these are still a fun treat for strolling in Central Park, around Soho, or even for when you watch a couple of SATC episodes! If you are in the area, be sure to try one of these sugar-loaded cupcakes. However, if you’re not in LA or NYC or Dubai, here is the recipe for you to try at home!
