Around Town: The Standard Grill, New York City

Weekend brunch at a hot spot in New York City can often be a nightmare without a reservation, especially if you don’t have the patience to wait 30-45 minutes for a table. I knew far in advance that I wouldn’t want to wait any longer than 10 minutes for food, so I made a reservation 2 weeks early for The Standard Grill. I have heard this restaurant pop up in random conversations, so when it came time to reserve a table, I had an idea of where I wanted to eat. The online menu also confirmed my thoughts – by the way, the food tastes as good as the menu looks. The service was quick and the staff was super friendly.

The Standard Grill’s location in the heart of the Meatpacking District is ideal, and after your meal you can leisurely walk on the High Line or make a couple of stops to the hip shops around the neighborhood. Also, when I left The Standard Grill, I spotted Martha Stewart (My inner creative and organization-crazy fan-girl screamed. Loudly.)

Setting: Breezy, clean, and spacious

Good for: Weekend brunch, meals with family and friends

What to order: Brioche French Toast with Vermont Maple Syrup, Waffles with Nutella and Banana, Eggs Benedict, Grapefruit Juice

Downsides: The chairs are not comfortable

Recommend: Making a reservation in advance

If The Standard Grill is full, try Cafe Lalo on the Upper West Side!
