When I was in New York City last summer, I visited this now-famous cafe that you may recognize from the classic film You’ve Got Mail. Cafe Lalo, located at 201 West 83rd Street, is a popular destination for tourists and New Yorkers. The first time I went, lines were out the door. I waited for 25 minutes before being seated. Cafe Lalo has a wide variety of eccentric options, including Swiss, Dutch, Viennese, and Caribbean breakfasts, milkshakes, cakes, sandwiches, and salads. In the film, the restaurant is dark and candle-lit. When I went at night it was loud and bright. There was obviously some rearranging done on the inside of the cafe, but the outside window panes and sparkling trees are dead giveaways.
I can see it now: Tom Hanks spying through the glass windows at Meg Ryan as she waits for her blind date with a rose and a copy of Pride and Prejudice.
